Greetings St. Louis membership,
Here we are in the middle of June; the temperature and humidity are up and the first day of summer is less than a week away. As the St. Louis summer continues to heat up so it seems that our workload increases. Most folks I’ve talked to lately seem to be very busy. Same is true for your St. Louis Chapter ASLA EXCOM. So busy in fact that we had to cancel our May meeting due to numerous scheduling conflicts but we made up for it by having a marathon meeting last week. See below for a quick update on our activities:
- Planning for the special event to recognize Walter Metcalf’s Honorary membership in ASLA is progressing. We have confirmed the event date for September 21. We are coordinating with the National Park Service, CityArchRiver, MVVA, GRG and others to create a great event. Mark it on your calendar. You will not want to miss this event.
- ‘Designed by a Landscape Architect’ Photo Contest was a great success. We generated a lot of traffic to our website and promoted the profession. Keep taking great pictures of landscape architecture projects for the 2016 photo contest.
- We are in the early stages of planning activities for the SPOKE bike tour.
- EXCOM members participated in a Biodiversity Mapping discussion with MoBOT.
- We are teaming up with the St. Louis AIA to participate in the St. Louis Cardinals “4-A-Greener-Game” initiative on September 8th. Volunteers will help gather plastic for recycling during the Cards vs. Cubs game. An announcement will be coming out soon.
Be safe and enjoy your summer,
Scott Emmelkamp, ASLA, PLA, LEED AP
