JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Project Director - Mill River Corridor parks and open space
Status: Full-time - independent contractor status
1+1+1 (Three-year project commitment, renewed annually based on performance and continued funding)
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 annualized
Funding source: 1/3 municipal, 2/3 privately fund raised
Report: The Project Director will be under contract to the Trust for Public Land, and will report to a task group of the Mill River Collaboration with day-to-day supervision provided by the Director of the Land Use Bureau, Robin Stein. The project director will have an office in the Land Use Bureau at City Hall.
Description: The Mill River Project Director will be responsible for ensuring proper implementation of the Approved Mill River Corridor plan as it pertains to parks and open space only. The project is the product of a principal partner, the City of Stamford, a number of agencies (federal, city and state), city-wide constituents and neighborhood and downtown interests. The Project Director's role will include: direct involvement in activities related to; park improvements (design and permitting - construction will be performed by the appropriate agency, however, it may require coordination and follow-through); establishment of design standards for park improvements; pursuit of additional sources of funding for on-going implementation, organizing and facilitating meetings among park stakeholders (including government, nonprofits, foundations, corporations, and residents), creating and expanding opportunities to promote the River as a scenic and natural resource, including co!
ordinating programming and events with the Downtown Special Services District (DSSD), other community based organizations and funding/implementation with the Urban Redevelopment Commission. Additionally, activities will include coordinating marketing and message development for the park; serving as staff support (minutes, meeting notices etc.) to the continued development of a park advocacy group, collaboration or conservancy that will work to provide for permanent funding, programming, stewardship and management of the park and open space resources. Finally, the Project Director will (develop) and coordinate the communication strategy for the park project.
Qual/Exp: Master's degree in planning, management, or related field; ability to work with diverse stakeholders, effective communication, organizing, and consensus-building skills; experience in city and park planning/development, community organizing, community leadership and public and private fundraising a must.
