DEPARTMENT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE/REGIONAL AND COMMUNITY PLANNING

Position Description:

Screening begins March 1, 2009, and continues until position is filled.

The Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning Program in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University is seeking a qualified candidate to teach in the Landscape Architecture Program. This is a nine month temporary position. Possible continuance of the candidate’s contract will be reviewed on an academic yearly basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach in the areas of design graphics, planting design, site planning and master’s projects. She/he will strengthen the teaching of hand and digital presentation and visualization skills in advanced graduate design studios.
Faculty duties include:
• Commitment to creative, effective teaching in the Department core curricula at the graduate level.
• Supervision of independent graduate research.
• Collegial participation in departmental governance.

Development of creative and/or scholarly activities supportive of departmental goals is encouraged.

Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Master of Landscape Architecture degree or a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree with a terminal degree in a closely allied profession. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, scholarship and creative practice is essential. Applicants must demonstrate strong design abilities and creative application of multiple forms of hand and digital visualization and communication.
Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. and/or professional experience, with professional licensure/certification and leadership potential, and qualified for membership on the KSU Graduate Faculty (http://www.k-state.edu/grad/gscurrent/handbook/chap5.htm). Individuals of exceptional professional and/or academic distinction may be considered without the cited credentials.

Landscape architecture, planning, architecture, and interior architecture / product design studios are adjacent to one another in historic Seaton Hall, located in the heart of K-State’s main campus. Landscape architecture studio spaces are vertically integrated with students from various years working in proximity to one another. This arrangement promotes mentoring and social development as senior students regularly mentor junior students. Each student is provided individual work space and a computer connection to the College Network and Internet. Core coursework is supported with a parallel technology module sequence that teaches advanced applications of relevant industry-standard software. Located in Seaton Hall, the Paul Weigel Library of Architecture, Planning and Design is an excellent teaching and scholarship resource, and the main University library, Hale Library, is located nearby
