JOB DESCRIPTION: Produces conceptual plans for proposed and existing parks to be used in developing awareness of projects, communicating objectives, and building support. Finalizes park master plans after review and comment on conceptual plans by staff and public. Assists with development of designs, construction plans and specifications and bid documents in cooperation with staff and engineering/architectural firms. Works closely with outside contractors and monitors projects for quality control. Performs final assessment and inspection prior to completion and acceptance of said projects. Physically inventories and analyzes natural and physical resources in existing and potential park properties by means of on-site assessment, use of aerial photos, contour maps, and other resource materials, then applies inventory information gathered to a matrix of park acquisition priorities. Presents plans and proposals to public groups, administrative staff and council. Gathers and evaluates input from a variety of sources. Produces plans and drawings for in-house park renovation and construction projects. Develops landscape plans for planting projects and enhancements within park settings. Directly supervises and works closely with the Department Horticulturalist and horticultural staff in developing plans for park landscaping projects. Coordinates departmental sign program for information, safety and interpretive purposes. Works closely with County Building, Planning and Zoning, and MIS Departments in developing park plans and constructing park facilities. Assists with the development of the parks capital budget and monitors expenditures of same. Maintains map, plan and construction drawing file system. Responsible for historical documentation for projects, facilities, programs and special events. Provides resource information for the development of grant applications that involve park property or linkage possibilities between recreational facilities. Performs other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS: Requires B.S. in landscape architecture, park management or landscape design or related field with three years applied work experience in park planning and park maintenance. Certification from CLARB (Council of Landscaping Architectural Registration Board) preferred. Two year's experience in CAD design using Auto CAD Release 14 or newer, ARCview and GIS experience desired. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Knowledge of park maintenance practices and procedures. Ability to draft park designs using CAD and GIS systems. Ability to clearly communicate design concepts to staff, administration and council in private and public settings. Ability to read and understand survey data to calculate cut and fill, elevations, drainage patterns and slope as these components relate to design. Ability to use discretion, tact and diplomacy in evaluating park acquisition and development plans.

SUMMER JOBS WITH HABS/HAER/HALS
The Heritage Documentation Programs (Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/Historic American Landscapes Survey), a division of the National Park Service, seeks applications from qualified individuals for summer employment documenting historic sites and structures of architectural, engineering and landscape significance throughout the country. Duties involve on-site field work and the preparation of measured and interpretive drawings and written historical reports for the HABS/HAER/HALS Collection at the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. Projects last twelve weeks, beginning in May/June. Salaries range from approximately $6,000 to approximately $11,000 for the summer, depending on job responsibility, locality of the project, and level of experience. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen.
